Consultations are underway with Congress on this matter. The head of the State Department also intends to meet with the leadership of the Palestinian Authority. For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for sanctions against anyone who supports Hamas. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize believes that the Western world will have to change priorities again.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken found many warm words to express support for Israel: as long as America exists, it will not abandon its main ally in the Middle East. He came here not only as Secretary of State, but also as an ethnic Jew. Help from the US is already in the country. Two American aircraft carrier formations with cruise missiles on board have been sent to the region.
For his part, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, among other things, stated that Hamas is ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and sanctions must be imposed against those who help the group. Terrorists must be expelled from the community of nations and no leader must have contact with them. By the way, the Russian Federation does not consider Hamas terrorists, and their representatives have come to Moscow more than once.
According to the Israeli side, Pentagon head Lloyd Austin is flying in after Blinken. Apparently, there will be a detailed discussion of military aspects. As for the political part, the US Secretary of State will also meet with Mahmoud Abbas, the official head of the Palestinian Authority. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves—many countries are making efforts to prevent confrontation from escalating.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz delivered a keynote speech in support of Israel at a meeting of the Bundestag. According to him, Germany will ban Hamas and review funding for Palestine, and it also intends to suppress all actions in support of terrorists.
Thus, the Western world is again, as in the case of Ukraine, forced to reconsider its policy priorities.
And now it seems that we are witnessing another crisis of leftist ideas, including the notorious multiculturalism and tolerance. It’s all very simple: a terrorist cannot be tamed; he never adapts to normal life. He can only pretend that he has changed his mind and wants to work and live in a civilized society. But his goal is to choose the time to strike. You cannot buy off a terrorist with humanitarian aid and special UN programs.
Despite the fact that the leaders of various organizations or autonomies successfully steal all this help or, again, use it to prepare the next attacks. As we see, the most modern and unprecedented technologies, high walls and innovative fences do not save us from terror. All this can be overcome using the simplest and most primitive methods.
But how to separate potential militants from truly normal people, who, in theory, should be more numerous both among refugee migrants who arrive in Europe and among residents of poor, potentially problematic countries and various autonomies? This is really the problem. New approaches are needed here. Be that as it may, this is not a matter of one day, so for now we have to fight. And this war did not begin today and will certainly not end tomorrow.
