“We have no way out”: Fedun spoke about Russia’s withdrawal from UEFA

The date of voting on the transition of the Russian Football Union to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has not yet been determined. The reason is the ongoing “intense negotiations” about the possibility of returning to UEFA, the former owner of the Spartak-Moscow team, a member of the executive committee of the RFU, Leonid Fedun, said in a television interview.
“While by [дате] I can’t say anything about the vote,” he said. “And you know my position on Asia, it seems to me that we have no way out.” Fedun also noted that the vote will take place when a “notice” about him comes. The most accurate information may, according to the functionary, have the President of the RFU Alexander Dyukov.
Recall that the RFU is considering the possibility of joining the Asian Football Confederation from UEFA, given the predominance of countries unfriendly to Russia in the European confederation. There are geographical prerequisites for this, since Russia is located in two parts of the world at once.
It is assumed that the vote will take place before December 31 this year. Until this happens, representatives of the RFU are negotiating with UEFA.
