“It was clear that both teams were in a stale state,” – said Mikhail Pashkin, head coach of SKA-Neftyanik. – “To play six matches in eight days is not so easy. A lot of strength and emotions were spent. But it was necessary to squeeze out everything that was. And, I think, both teams did it. If you take a match, then it can be divided into two halves. The first half was for “Vodnik” – they had better movement, they were superior to us in the selection, in aggression, created more dangerous chances. All this was the result of our game. What we wanted in the first half we almost failed. We moved away from our lines, from our turns. And it so happened that we played one artist, and not a team game. There were no team actions, there was no team speed. In many respects this was due to our opponent, who complicated our game with his actions and deservedly won the first half.
Of course, we had to rebuild in the second half, rebuild the outgoing position when playing on the defensive. Add on the move. Both with the ball and without the ball. As a result, we managed to change the drawing. To make it closer to what we try to profess – fast movement of the ball, correct openings, quick transition from defense to attack, tight game in tackle. In the second half we succeeded, and the half was ours. We realized our chances and deservedly won the match. As a result, we completed the task that we set for ourselves, which we set for ourselves – to take first place in the group.
I will add that today, as in the previous match, our captain Yuri Shardakov did not participate. We miss him very much. When he is with us again, we will be even stronger and more powerful, both in attack and defense. He has a broken cheekbone. He flew to Moscow and is currently consulting with doctors. We will soon find out if surgery is required and how long it will take him to recover.”
The quarterfinals of the Russian Cup will start on September 14th. It is on this day that SKA-Neftyanik will play with Volga. The semi-finals will be held on 17 September, the final on Sunday 18 September.
