You should also pay attention to the eyes of the fish. They should be clean, shiny, moist and slightly raised. If your eyes are cloudy, it is better not to buy it. Another thing to consider is the gills. The brighter their color, the fresher it is.
The body of fresh fish should be resilient and non-slip, the surface clean and without pronounced damage. Through injuries and cuts, microbial infections can enter the fish.
Erofeeva also said that fresh fish smells of salt, sea, river, sometimes fresh cucumber, but not “stuffy fish amber” and other extraneous odors.
