The water level in the Ural River in Orenburg continues to rise. At 21:40 Moscow time it reached 1022 cm, water approached apartment buildings in the city. However, there is no risk of flooding, said Orenburg Mayor Sergei Selin. He said flood dams had been brought into the city to contain the water.

“The Urals spills very widely. The water has come close to apartment buildings on Gennady Donkovtsev Street, Dubki Residential Complex and Grand Park, but there is no risk of flooding now. Buildings on the embankment near the road bridge are flooded,” he said in a video message Telegram-channel. He added that there is no threat of shutting off water in the city. Orenburg water treatment facilities also continue to operate as normal.

By assessment authorities of the Orenburg region, the region faced the largest flood in the entire history of observations. A federal emergency has been declared in the region. In Orsk, a dam broke due to the flood on April 5. Damage to infrastructure is tentatively estimated at 21 billion rubles. In a number of settlements, including Orenburg and Orsk, partial evacuation has been announced.
