The mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, said that the water that flooded Novaya Kakhovka after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station had almost completely left the city. According to him, the authorities expect to return the city to normal life within a week.
“By and large, the entire city has been freed from water. We have started pumping out the waters that are still standing in the cellars. The power industry has been launched,” Vladimir Leontiev said in a conversation with Kommersant FM. At the time of the destruction of the hydroelectric power station on June 6, the water in Nova Kakhovka rose by 12 m. The mayor also said that daily water tests from laboratories confirm that the water in the city is drinkable.
The dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station collapsed on June 6. Russia and Ukraine blame each other for what happened. The Ukrainian side evacuated more than 3 thousand people from the flooded territories, Russia – more than 6 thousand. According to the Russian authorities, seven people died.
