In 2023, the average salaries of the 20% least and 20% of the most paid workers differed by 7.7 times (22.7 thousand rubles versus 173.7 thousand rubles), follows from research data from the audit and consulting network FinExpertiza (available in at the disposal of Kommersant). Wage inequality in Russia, according to data, has returned to 2019 levels, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, average salaries differed by 7.71 times. In 2021, against the backdrop of “recovery economic growth,” the difference in earnings increased to 7.9 times. A reduction in inequality was observed by the beginning of 2023.

As FinExpertiza notes, the trend is due to the fact that over two years the nominal earnings of the least paid fifth of employees increased by 30%, while for the top stratum the increase was 27%.

The largest difference in salary levels is observed in Moscow – 9.3 times (36.7 versus 339.9 thousand rubles). In other regions, the difference is 7 times and lower: in St. Petersburg 6.8 times (32.3 thousand rubles versus 220.5 thousand rubles), in the Moscow region 6.5 times (27 thousand). rubles against 174.9 thousand rubles), in the Amur region by 6.2 times (28.3 thousand rubles against 175 thousand rubles), in the Tyumen region by 6.2 times (26.1 thousand rubles). rubles against 160.7 thousand rubles).
