The Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) acquitted figure skater Kamila Valieva. About it reported to WADA on their official website. The CAS (International Court of Arbitration for Sport) confirmed that the prohibited substance trimetazidine could have entered the athlete’s body due to her grandfather’s drugs.
“The Tribunal found that although the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, she bears no “fault or negligence” for it. Thus, the court did not impose any sanctions, except for the disqualification of her results on the date of sampling, ”the World Anti-Doping Agency said in a statement.
In addition, WADA requested from RUSADA (Russian Anti-Doping Agency) a copy of the full decision, which will be considered along with the case file. In the future, the organization will determine whether the verdict is in accordance with the provisions of WADA.
The organization recalled that they have the right to appeal to CAS “depending on the situation.”
Recall that during the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022, figure skater Kamila Valieva passed a positive doping test for trimetazidine, and the study itself was carried out in December 2021 at the Russian Championship.
WADA appealed to CAS with a call to disqualify Valieva for four years.
