One of the defendants in the New Greatness case, Vyacheslav Kryukov, was released from IK-10 Rostov-on-Don, his lawyer Leonid Solovyov said. The man became the first among those sentenced to a real prison term who was released.
“Today, Vyacheslav was released from IK-10 Rostov-on-Don, who has completely served his sentence. In the near future he will return home,” Mr. Solovyov told TASS. He also noted that Vyacheslav Kryukov was ordered to report to the police for a year in connection with the ban imposed on him as part of the verdict to leave Gelendzhik.
In 2020, the court found seven people guilty under Part 1 of Art. 282.1 of the Criminal Code (“creation of an extremist community”). Vyacheslav Kryukov became one of the three defendants who were given a real term of imprisonment, he was sentenced to six years in a penal colony. Four more people received suspended sentences. None of the accused pleaded guilty.
The defendants of the “New Greatness” were accused of intending to seize power in Russia through a coup d’état. The defendants claimed that their organization was created as a result of a provocation by the Russian special services.
