Vucic will hold a meeting of the Security Council because of the threats of the prime minister of Kosovo to remove the barricades by force

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic convened a meeting of the country’s National Security Council at 19:00 (21:00 Moscow time) due to the fact that the Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, promised to use force if the barricades in the north of the region were not dismantled. “After Albin Kurti’s latest threats that he would attack the Serbs at the barricades with all available means in the evening, President Aleksandar Vucic called a meeting of the National Security Council at 19:00,” the publication said.

Earlier, Kurti said that he turned to the NATO KFOR mission about the barricades erected by the Serbs, and added that he was waiting for an answer until the evening, after which he promised to dismantle them on his own. The leader of the Serbian List, Goran Rakic, said that according to his information, Kurti plans to send ROSU detachments and other units to the north of the region.

On December 10, in his address to the citizens, Vučić declaredthat Pristina plans to apply for EU membership on December 15, which, according to him, violates the norms of the union and the agreements reached earlier. He also reported on December 12 to send an official request to the command of the NATO KFOR mission for the entry of a Serbian police and army contingent into Kosovo and Metohija.

Kosovo Serbs began erecting barricades after Dejan Pantic, a former member of the Kosovo Interior Ministry, was detained in Pristina. Later, the police blocked the entrance to the region through the Yarine checkpoint for cars and pedestrians from the central regions of Serbia.

On the night of December 8-9, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija (KiM) under the Serbian government, Petar Petkovic, at an extraordinary press conference, said that Serbia would consider returning up to a thousand members of its security forces to the region due to Pristina’s forceful steps in the ethnically populated Serbs in areas of Kosovo. The activity of the Kosovo security forces in Serbian regions increased after the intention to hold early elections there after the Serbs left the institutions of power of the partially recognized state.
