Vucic: Pristina will apply for EU membership on December 15

On December 15, the authorities of Pristina will apply for membership in the European Union, which violates the norms of the union and the agreements reached earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in an address to the citizens of the country. About it informs “RIA News”.

“Pristina will officially apply for EU membership on December 15 with great fanfare in Brussels,” he said. According to Vučić, this is an “unpleasant event” for Serbia, which violates the Washington agreement and the Pristina authorities “do not want to comply with the agreements.” The President of the country said that he would send a letter to the leaders of countries that do not recognize the independence of Kosovo – Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Slovakia and Romania – with a reminder that only European states can join the EU, and the self-proclaimed republic is not one.

Also Vučić promisedthat Serbia will send a formal request to the command of the NATO KFOR mission for the deployment of a Serbian police and army contingent to Kosovo and Metohija in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The corresponding decision of the government will be made on December 12. He added that it is likely that the request will be rejected.

Next week, according to Vučić, the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia will publish notes of those countries that withdrew the previously recognized independence of Kosovo.

Earlier in the day, Kosovo Serbs began erecting barricades after Dejan Pantic, a former Kosovo Interior Ministry official, was detained in Pristina. Later, the police blocked the entrance to the region through the Yarine checkpoint for cars and pedestrians from the central regions of Serbia.

On the night of December 8-9, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija (KiM) under the Government of Serbia Petar Petkovic at an extraordinary press conference declaredthat Serbia will consider returning up to a thousand members of its security forces to the region due to Pristina’s military moves in ethnic Serb areas of Kosovo. The activity of the Kosovo security forces in Serbian regions increased after the intention to hold early elections there after the Serbs left the institutions of power of the partially recognized state.
