The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU’s dependence on Russian energy resources is a thing of the past. She said this at a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“Europe’s dependence on Russian oil and gas supplies is now in the past,” she said.
The head of the EC added that in eight months Russia has reduced gas supplies to Europe by 80%. Europe “due to hard work” managed to compensate for this, with the help of “good friends”, including the United States and Norway.
Von der Leyen believes that Moscow wanted to destroy European cohesion by cutting energy supplies, but this did not happen.
