State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin announced a ban on foreigners from using the services of surrogate motherhood, which is being prepared in the Russian Federation. “We will make a decision in early December,” the parliamentarian promised.
According to him, over the past few years, “45,000 babies born by surrogate mothers have been taken abroad from Russia,” and this is “a big illegal business” with a turnover of over 2 billion euros. He called this business common in developed countries “trafficking in children”.
“Such babies <...> become victims of crimes, including sales for organs, Volodin continues. “They fall into same-sex couples.”
Everything must be done to protect children, summed up the chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament.
