Volodin responded to Prigozhin after St. Petersburg refused to bury a Wagner Group fighter

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin responded to an appeal addressed to him by businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin in connection with the refusal of the authorities of St. Petersburg to bury Dmitry Menshikov, a Wagner Group soldier who died during a special operation, on the Walk of Fame of the Beloostrovsky cemetery.
“Everyone is equal at the front: volunteers, PMC fighters, servicemen,” Volodin commented to journalists on Prigozhin’s appeal.
The head of the State Duma added that when it comes to “the memory of the heroes who died for the Motherland,” they cannot be separated. He stressed that the local authorities must do everything to pay their last respects, perpetuate the memory and support the family of the man who died defending the country.
Volodin also said that the House Defense Committee would prepare a proposal so that the norms of the law regarding combatants would apply to all military personnel.
Earlier it was reported that Smolny asked the chief military commissar of St. Petersburg, Sergei Kachkovsky, to suggest how to deal with the burial of combatants if their status is not defined by the current legislation of Russia.
