Volodin proposed to confiscate property from those who insult Russia from abroad

The existing penalties for Russians who have gone abroad and criticize the country are not enough. Amendments should be made to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which would allow the confiscation of property from such citizens. This was stated by the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin.

“The scoundrels who have left live comfortably thanks to our country. <...> In this situation, it would be correct to supplement the relevant articles of the Criminal Code with a clause on confiscation of property from scoundrels in the Russian Federation, which they have enough to compensate for the damage. But this, of course, will not return their conscience to them, ”- wrote he is in his Telegram channel.

Volodin recalled that statements insulting the inhabitants of the Russian Federation and the military can be regarded as calls for extremism, discrediting the Russian army, etc. According to the speaker of the State Duma, the existing response measures are not enough.

Volodin explained that citizens who criticize the Russian government and live abroad rent out real estate and “continue to receive royalties” at the expense of the Russians. In his opinion, they “feel their impunity”, because they think that “justice cannot reach them.” Volodin believes that the reason for this behavior is the desire of the departed Russians “to curry favor and try to maintain their well-being abroad.”

Previously, to seize property from Russians who left abroad, who speak negatively about the country, offered Senator Sergei Tsekov. On December 28, 2022, he stated that the confiscated funds should be sent to the participants in the special operation.

On the same day, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev urged not to let such people into Russia “until the end of their days”, as well as to cut them off from sources of income in the Russian Federation. At the beginning of January he emphasizedthat traitors must be dealt with “according to the law.” If the law does not work, then one should recall the “special rules of wartime,” the politician added.

These proposals were criticized by Andrey Klishas, ​​Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building. Tsekov’s initiative named unconstitutional.

January 8 Klishas urged to leave the authorities of politicians who propose to “play against the rules” and call on “not to pay attention to the Constitution”. In response to Medvedev’s words about wartime rules, Senator remindedthat in the Russian Federation “the laws of war have not yet been adopted.”

At the same time, in early December, Klishas allowedthat the authorities can develop measures that “make being abroad less comfortable” for the departed Russians.
