Volodin linked Russia’s withdrawal from PACE with the absence of gays in the State Duma

The absence of gays in the lower and upper houses of the Russian parliament was one of the reasons for Russia’s withdrawal from PACE, said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.
According to him, during the membership of the Russian Federation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, he and Vice Speaker Petr Tolstoy received a form according to which the lower and upper houses of the Russian parliament were to send representatives of the LGBT community to the meeting as a matter of priority. “But we don’t have them, so we didn’t fill out this form,” Volodin shared the details. The speaker of the State Duma noted that this was one of the grounds for Russia’s withdrawal from PACE.
Earlier in the lower house of the Russian parliament, hearings were held on a bill on responsibility for LGBT propaganda. Volodin pointed out that he received many requests to pass a law on the protection of traditional family values.
