Volodin invited the State Duma to condemn the Swedish authorities for allowing the Koran to be burned

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin suggested that the deputies prepare a resolution condemning the actions of the Swedish authorities, which allowed a rally to be held near a mosque in Stockholm with the burning of the Koran.
“There is a proposal that our profile committee prepare a resolution by tomorrow, in which, I think you will agree with me, we must condemn the actions of the authorities of Stockholm, Sweden, which allowed the burning of the Koran near the mosque,” Mr. Volodin said during the plenary meetings.
Earlier today, June 28, the Swedish media reportedthat the Stockholm police allowed another action with the burning of the Koran near the city mosque. Reinforcements were sent to the place of the action. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Hjalmar Kristersson said the police decision to allow the Quran-burning event was “legal but inappropriate”. Today, Muslims celebrate one of the main religious holidays – Eid al-Adha.
In early April, the Swedish Administrative Court canceled the Swedish Foreign Ministry’s ban on demonstrations during which the Koran is burned. In its decision, the court indicated that freedom of assembly and demonstration are constitutionally protected rights.
The action with the burning of the Koran in Stockholm was held at the end of January. Then a demonstration was held in front of the Turkish embassy. It was organized by the Danish-Swedish activist of the far-right and anti-Islamist Hard Course party Rasmus Paludan. After that, Türkiye statedthat will not approve of Sweden’s entry into NATO.
In Russia, for burning the Koran near the Cathedral Mosque in Volgograd, a criminal case was initiated against 19-year-old Nikita Zhuravel under Part 2 of Art. 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (insulting the feelings of believers). Central District Court of Volgograd arrested young man for two months. The Chechen court will consider his case. There, Mr. Zhuravel will serve his sentence.
