State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said that deputies who introduced a bill to increase the conscription age to 50 years for men with acquired citizenship will be asked to withdraw the document. According to him, such initiatives need to be “comprehensively discussed” before introducing them into the “public plane.”
“The issue has not been resolved. The authors will be asked to withdraw the legislative initiative,” said Mr. Volodin “RIA Novosti”.
The document was introduced for consideration in the State Duma on February 1 by deputies Alexei Zhuravlev (LDPR), Alexander Boroday and Mikhail Sheremet (both from United Russia). The authors of the initiative believe that now natives of foreign countries who have become citizens of the Russian Federation avoid registering for military service or specifically wait until they reach the maximum conscription age (30 years) and only then receive a Russian passport.
