The colonial interests of the West “have not disappeared anywhere”, but “only the methods are changing,” the speaker believes. Volodin notes that due to the “neo-colonial influence” of the West, some African states have had zero or negative economic growth over the 60 years of their existence, which leads to poverty and loss of sovereignty.

“The UN should consider the issue of compensation to the peoples of the African continent by, first of all, the United States, Great Britain and France for the damage they have caused. Africa has the right not only to independently dispose of its wealth, but also to compensate for the damage caused by the colonialists,” the speaker concluded.

From July 27 to 28, St. Petersburg hosted the Russia-Africa summit, which announced the participation of delegations from 49 countries, including 17 leaders of African states.

As a result of the forum, a Russian-African declaration was adopted with clauses on cooperation in the fields of security, economy, education, etc. In particular, the parties agreed to ensure “fair access” of states to “the benefits of the world economy and the international division of labor.”
