Volgograd, mired in feces, went on the hunt for water carriers

In Volgograd, the elimination of what happened on the eve of the accident continues, as a result of which the city sewer broke through in the floodplain of the Tsaritsa River, and a huge amount of sewage got into the Volga. The result is an ecological and humanitarian catastrophe: more than 186,000 people lost their heating and water supply. Today, the situation has been stabilized by restoring one of the broken pipes, and the governor of the region, Andrey Bocharov, instructed to complete all restoration work within two days – by November 4.

In the Voroshilovsky district of Volgograd, heavy rain eroded an earthen embankment, which caused the collapse of the reinforced concrete box of the drain collector, and also damaged one of the main pipes. According to Bocharov, this is one of the most serious man-made accidents in the last decade.

Photos have already circulated on the Internet, in which Volgograd residents formed a huge queue on the street for a truck with water. Thousands of people were left without drinking and technical water, but far from everyone knows where such trucks come.

And there are also videos “walking” on the network, in which the townspeople scoop up water into a bucket directly from puddles, since after heavy rains there are plenty of them on the streets.

Now heat and water supply are slowly but restored. Somewhere the batteries are warm only in one room, and the water flows in a thin stream. “The pressure is average. Heating has so far been given in one room and in the kitchen,” Volgograd residents share their joy on social networks. However, there were also problems with electricity – due to the massive use of heaters, the capacities of substations are simply not enough.

But residents of private houses are afraid that they will be forgotten. “In some areas, “private owners” still don’t even have a thin stream, and heating is one name, one of the hostesses of such a house complained to MK, “For example, in the Soviet district. As I understand it, private houses will have to wait another five days without water.”

– Do the owners of private houses use wells on the streets?

– There is technical and often muddy water, which is not suitable for drinking. It is easier for those who have their own wells in the areas, but not everyone has them, and the quality of groundwater is unknown.

“But do they bring water to the city?”

– Somewhere there is a list of streets along which water carriers will run. The compilers of these so-called charts approached this issue with complete irresponsibility. What time the car will arrive, where it will stop is unknown. People learn about everything from each other.

If someone accidentally noticed a water carrier on the street, they informed others. Now I read that the schedule was published on social networks. But my neighbor, a single 80-year-old woman, is not registered in social networks, she does not even have the Internet. How should she be? But in general, of course, water was delivered, thanks to the guys who filled our buckets and bottles in the wind and cold.

– How did the townspeople react to the news that the recalculation of water bills will be made?

– Fee reduction? And how much money people spent on buying water, and someone is still spending! How much electricity bills have grown, because people warmed themselves with heaters as best they could. Forces, time, inconvenience and money for medicines – many fell ill from the cold.
