Russian journalist, shipping expert and editor-in-chief of the Maritime Bulletin publication Mikhail Voitenko died in Thailand at the age of 66 due to heart problems.

According to information “RIA News”, the journalist suffered a heart attack. “His death was almost instantaneous,” the agency was told at a public hospital in Chonburi province on the east coast of Thailand, in one of the districts of which Voitenko lived in recent years.

Mikhail Voitenko is a professional sailor; in the past he was a naval engineer. In 2005, he founded the Maritime Bulletin website, which covered all major maritime incidents. Mikhail Voitenko was known as one of Russia’s leading experts on shipping and modern piracy. The journalist left Russia in September 2009. He first lived in Turkey and then moved to Thailand.
