The editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) Vladimir Sungorkin died at the age of 68, reported edition itself. According to preliminary data, the cause of death was a stroke.
Channel source “Star” said that Mr. Sungorkin participated in a motor rally in Primorsky Krai. He was hospitalized, but the journalist could not be saved. Columnist KP Alexander Gamov told Interfax that the editor-in-chief of the publication was on a business trip in the Khabarovsk Territory. “Suspicion of a stroke… Now we are organizing his removal to Moscow,” he added. KP war correspondent Alexander Kots writesthat Mr. Sungorkin was on vacation and spent it with friends in the taiga in the Far East.
Vladimir Sungorkin was elected editor-in-chief of the publication in 1997. Then he was appointed chairman of the board of directors. He has held the post of editor-in-chief since April 1999, since 2002 he has combined it with the position of general director of CJSC Publishing House Komsomolskaya Pravda. He has worked for the publishing house since 1985. Prior to that, he was a correspondent for the newspaper Sovetskaya Rossiya (1981-1985).
Since 2006, he has been a member of public councils under the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Transport. Since August 2013, he has been a member of the Council for awarding government media awards. In 2014 he received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree. In 2018, he was recognized as an Honored Journalist of the Russian Federation “for merits in the development of domestic journalism and many years of fruitful work.”
