Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of the Council on State Policy in the Sphere of Family and Children Protection

On April 18, Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of the Presidential Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the Sphere of Family and Children Protection. The theme of the event will be the role of a teacher and mentor in the upbringing of the younger generation. This was reported to Vedomosti by two interlocutors close to the presidential administration.

The event was confirmed by Senator Lilia Gumerova, who is the executive secretary of the presidential council. The press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, did not answer the question of Vedomosti about whether such an event was planned by Putin.

On June 27, 2022, the President signed a decree on holding the Year of the Teacher and Mentor in Russia in 2023. The government was supposed, according to the document, to develop a plan of main events, and the executive authorities in the regions were to hold their events within the framework of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor.

The opening of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor officially took place on March 2, 2023. Then Putin held it via videoconference, although he had to go to Pyatigorsk, where the event was held. But then there was a diversion in the Bryansk region, and Peskov explained that “for obvious reasons” the opening of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor will be held via videoconference. Then the participants of the event gathered at the Mashuk Knowledge Center.

The purpose of holding the Year of the Teacher and Mentor is to “draw the attention of society to the work of people who give their time and energy to children, youth, our future,” the president said then. “I am convinced that we need to talk more about the colossal contribution that teachers and mentors have made and are making today to the success and achievements of the whole country,” Putin said. Then he spoke about the need to “form a sovereign education system” at all levels.

From April 13 to April 15, Sochi hosted the All-Russian Forum “The New Philosophy of Education”, curated by the Kremlin’s internal political bloc. It was attended by 400 advisers to directors of education, as well as regional officials.

“In recent years, the responsibility of the state has returned to the law on education not only for education and the transfer of knowledge, but also for the upbringing of children. The shameful wording that education is a service has gone. Of course, this was unfair to all the people who chose a sacred and very important profession – teaching the younger generation, ”said Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, at the forum.

The Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the Sphere of Family and Children Protection is an advisory body under the President, which was created for the interaction of state bodies, authorities in the regions, public and scientific organizations on issues in the field of protecting families and children. It also oversees the implementation of the action plan for the Decade of Childhood. The Chairman of the Council is the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. The last meeting of the council was held on July 4, 2019.
