Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the head of the office of the CPC Central Committee Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg. The negotiations took place ahead of the president’s upcoming visit to China in October for a forum on international cooperation within the framework of the One Belt, One Road initiative.
Both Putin and Wang noted the importance of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Russian Federation on March 20–22, 2023. Xi’s visit was “epoch-making,” the Russian president emphasized: it took place immediately after Xi’s election as chairman of the People’s Republic of China. “This was an important sign of trust and the high level of our relations – we understand this well,” Putin said.
