Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the launch of the first natural gas liquefaction (LNG) line on a gravity platform. It will be towed along the Northern Sea Route to the Utrenneye field on the Gydan Peninsula in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. About it informs Kremlin press office.

“I allow it,” the head of state said and gave the appropriate horn to start.

During a meeting in the Murmansk region, the president emphasized the importance of such projects as Arctic LNG-2 for the region and the entire economy of the country.

“LNG production projects are certainly important, because they give a complex effect for the entire economy, allow us to win the necessary share in the global LNG market, and allow us to develop related industries,” Putin said.

He recalled that the first project for the construction of LNG lines was successfully implemented. In this regard, he expressed confidence that the Arctic LNG-2 will also be launched on time and with the required quality.

The launch took place during the President’s visit to the Novatek-Murmansk Center for the Construction of Large Offshore Structures. The center is building gas liquefaction lines for the Arctic LNG-2 project.

During the visit, Putin also toured the workshops and got acquainted with the construction of the second LNG production line, accompanied by the head of Novatek, Leonid Mikhelson, presidential envoy to the Northwestern Federal District, Alexander Gutsan, and Governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis.

According to the governor of the region, the “floating LNG plant” has no analogues in the world, since the full cycle of natural gas liquefaction takes place right on the platform, and three Boeing-737 aircraft can easily fit in the LNG storage tank. Lapwing addedthat the mass of the “floating plant” exceeds 640,000 tons, which is almost equal in weight to 400,000 cars.

He stressed that “the floating plant is the embodiment of the strength and power of our engineering science, experience and skills of the workers of the Center for the construction of large-tonnage offshore structures.”

As part of the construction of the Novatek Arctic LNG-2 plant, three gas liquefaction lines with a total capacity of 19.8 million tons per year will be created. The first line is planned to be launched in late 2023 – early 2024, the second – in 2024, the third – in 2026.

Arctic LNG-2 is the world’s first plant for serial production of LNG lines based on gravity-based structures (GBS). Each CDP accommodates 14 process modules with a total weight of about 160,000 tons and with a single module weighing up to 17,000 tons.

Hundreds of Russian enterprises are involved in the process of manufacturing technological lines, more than 80,000 jobs have been created throughout Russia, including more than 17,000 jobs in the Murmansk region.
