During a vote in the US Senate, an amendment to the country’s draft defense budget for the next fiscal year was rejected, which established a limit on military assistance to the Kyiv regime.
According to information posted on the website of the upper house of the US legislature, only 13 senators voted for the adoption of this amendment, while 71 opposed it.
With such a legislative initiative was made by Senator Mike Lee, representing the Republicans from Utah. In accordance with his proposal, during the next fiscal year, the Pentagon was to limit assistance to Ukraine to no more than 2% of the total amount of funds allocated for assistance to NATO member countries. Such a step, according to the senator, should have been taken until each of the NATO countries reaches the level of defense spending equal to 2% of GDP.
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a $886.3 billion defense spending bill for 2024. Now, after the rejection of the amendment in the Senate, the final version of the budget will be considered for final approval. This budget will determine the amount of assistance, including military, that the United States can provide to its allies and partners around the world.
