Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Karabakh with the Security Council

Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Russian Security Council at an emergency meeting discussed the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The meeting was held ahead of the upcoming meeting between the Russian president and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting was announced by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“Putin held an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council. The meeting participants exchanged views in the context of the upcoming Russian-Turkish high-level talks,” Peskov said.
“The situation related to the aggravation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was also discussed. The urgent need to implement all the provisions of the tripartite agreement was emphasized,” the press secretary of the visitor emphasized.
The first face-to-face meeting between Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a year and a half will take place in Sochi on Friday, August 5th. The leaders will discuss the Syrian issue, the situation in Libya, Afghanistan and the Caucasus, as well as issues of cooperation between the two countries.
The situation in Karabakh escalated on August 3. The reason was Baku’s demand to the Armenians of Karabakh to leave the Lachin corridor, which links Armenia and the NKR, and start using another route, which Azerbaijan laid specifically for communication with Armenia.
Ministry of Defense of the NKR reportedthat the Azerbaijani military violated the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the ministry, eight Armenian servicemen were wounded, one died. Azerbaijan blamed Armenia for the shelling.
Later the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan declaredthat carried out the “Retribution” operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which was a response to the “illegal” actions of “Armenian armed formations” in Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today declaredwhich expects Russian peacekeepers to stop any attempt to violate the line of contact.
