VKontakte can now translate messages into different languages

Russian social network VKontakte launched instant translation of text messages in chats. Available languages ​​include English, Spanish and Portuguese. You can translate both from Russian into foreign, and vice versa. The social network hopes in this way to remove the language barrier in communication.

The technology is based on VKontakte’s own software solution and does not involve third-party equipment. Machine translation is handled by a neural network: it is trained on open data, and is also able to take into account the peculiarities of the vocabulary and communication manners of users from different regions and fields of activity. The technology recognizes slang expressions and is suitable for translating both colloquial phrases and artistic and business materials. In the future, the number of available languages ​​for translation will increase.
