VK has introduced a beta version of the VK Video mobile application, a full-fledged launch may take place this fall, reported company press office.
“The beta version of the VK Video mobile application is available on Google Play and RuStore for Android users, and a version for iOS will appear soon. <...> A full-scale launch is scheduled for this fall,” the message says.
The application provides online and offline video viewing. VK Video also has background viewing in Picture-In-Picture mode, users have the ability to save their favorite videos to Favorites or create playlist folders for content.
VK noted that during beta testing, the functionality and recommendation algorithms of the application will be improved, taking into account the wishes and feedback from viewers and platform authors. The company’s message states that VK ID is used to enter and register in VK Video – a single account for all VK projects.
“Authorization provides cross-platform viewing: recommendations and video views on the VKontakte social network are synchronized with the VK Video mobile application. You can also watch video content in a separate application without authorization or registration,” added VK.
Back in May 2022, VK CEO Vladimir Kiriyenko informed about the company’s plans to launch “VK Video” as a separate application before the end of the year. According to him, in the future, VK will increase the variety of content, including partnerships with large independent services that can be used within the VKontakte social network.
VK IFRS revenue for 2022 increased to 97.8 billion rubles, which is 19.3% more than in 2021. The main source of growth was revenue from online advertising. Compared to 2021, it increased by 29%. The revenue of the key segment “Social networks and content services” reached 75.1 billion rubles, which is 22% more than a year earlier.
The main drivers were the growth of the VKontakte social network and the purchase ofYandex.Novosti and Zen. It is specified that the revenue of VKontakte in 2022 increased by 22%. In addition, in the fourth quarter, the average monthly audience of the social network amounted to a record 79.5 million users.
