Apple Vision Pro glasses have appeared in Russian online stores. Resellers posted the first advertisements for the sale of augmented reality devices on marketplaces. True, prices reach 900 thousand rubles. At the same time, the gadget has already caused a wave of criticism and ridicule among American users; in the USA it has been available since February 2, at a cost of $3.5 thousand. However, the main question is, will the new product even work in Russia? At the very least, you can’t count on technical support from Apple in the country. Immediately after the start of sales in the United States, social networks were flooded with comical videos of strange passers-by in massive glasses walking, staggering and waving their arms absurdly. In addition, from time to time they have to stretch their neck; the headset weighs 0.6 kg, which is like carrying a full-fledged iPad on your head. Also, judging by the complaints, it is impossible to install Netflix and YouTube on the Apple Vision Pro and, what especially upset users, the device does not provide complete immersion in adult content.
And yet, Vision Pro is an innovative product in its segment, says Ekaterina Filatova, president of the Association of Augmented and Virtual Reality: “The glasses have no analogues. There is a separate virtual reality and augmented reality helmet, but in functionality and technology they are more advanced than those available on the market. This is a well-thought-out story; the user can, for example, transfer his work processes, computer monitor, social network clients, and conference calls into the digital space.”
At first, experts predicted the start of sales of Apple Vision Pro in Russia no earlier than spring. But Yandex Market, Wildberries, Ozon and Avito already have glasses. Prices for a model with a minimum amount of memory start from 600 thousand rubles, and more advanced versions can cost 800-900 thousand rubles. Kommersant FM contacted one of the sellers and found out that the trial batch was sold out in a matter of days.
“They arrived to us probably on February 4, and they were sold out in literally three days, in addition, there were pre-orders. The next delivery is planned no earlier than mid-to-late March. Most likely, next time the glasses will be cheaper, because the first deliveries were accompanied by additional transport costs,” says one of the Avito sellers.
However, officially Vision Pro can now only be used in the USA. To register and download applications, you will need an Apple ID with the North America region. And if you forget your password or the device itself breaks down, you definitely won’t be able to get help from licensed specialists in Russia. However, opportunities for using glasses remain, notes Kommersant FM Hi-Tech columnist Alexander Levi:
“This is the company’s first gadget in the spatial computing category. Any glitches will be resolved quickly; another thing is that only Russian users themselves should solve the problems. If the VPN works on other Apple devices, then there is no doubt that it will work on the Vision Pro. It’s a matter of the app store region; to do this, you just need to register an American account, which everyone learned a long time ago. The only problem is that in this case a large number of applications that are on the native account are erased.”
However, do Russians need such an expensive gadget if its functionality is still limited? The question is rather rhetorical. But those who still want to get involved with the new product should not count on a quick adaptation of the gadget to new markets, says Sergei Kuznetsov, editor-in-chief of the itzine.ru portal:
“I don’t think they will make an international interface. Apple wants to be a personalized story, like Louis Vuitton bags. That is, this is a premium item, and not something you can buy from a reseller in another country.
Therefore, on those devices that are now being brought to Russia, you still will not get the maximum experience that Apple has laid down.”
Experts, by the way, recommended keeping children away from Apple Vision Pro, and not so much because of the impact on the psyche. If you enter the wrong password several times, unlocking the device will be problematic, to put it mildly.
