“Vision” for the visually impaired: a new version of an ultrasound device for people with disabilities has been developed in Moscow

A company from the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, which specializes in creating devices for visualizing 3D content, presented its improved development of ultrasonic “vision” for the visually impaired. The device works on the principle of echolocation – like the vision of bats, which “see” the world using ultrasound reflected from objects. In the new version, the device is a flexible rim. “Initially, the Echo Sonar from Rukap was made in the form of a helmet, since it is fundamentally important to use it in the head area. With the development of new materials and element base, the developers made the device in the form of a flexible rim that can be fixed on a headdress,” said Vladislav Ovchinsky, Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy. He added that the range of the device is 2-3 meters; for longer distances, you can connect it to GPS navigation via a smartphone.
According to the General Director of the Technopolis Moscow SEZ, Gennady Degtev, the company has been developing modern electronic devices in the SEZ since 2015. The enterprise’s technical solutions are used at city infrastructure facilities and the International Space Station. The latest version of the device, created on a modern electronic component base, will improve the quality of life of visually impaired people.
