The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand said that the record of the average world temperature, recorded on Thursday due to global warming, will not be the last, the indicators can be beaten this summer.
Earlier, Western media published data according to which July 6 was the hottest day in the history of meteorological observations, the average global temperature was 17.23 degrees Celsius. This is the third record for the week, the previous one was set on Tuesday, July 4, and was 17.18 degrees.
“This news is not surprising for experts, as it is fully in line with climate change trends. It is worth noting that this is not a sharp jump in temperature. Compared to the previous record, the temperature recorded on Thursday is only hundredths of a degree higher. It is expected that in the near future we are waiting for new temperature records, perhaps this will happen this summer,” Vilfand explained to RIA Novosti.
The scientist emphasized that such an increase in temperature is associated with global warming caused by anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. He also recalled that the last eight years have been the warmest in the history of meteorological observations.
