Vilfand called the regions of Russia that are waiting for frosts of minus 50 on the Old New Year

Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation, Honored Meteorologist of the Russian Federation Roman Vilfand told in an interview with URA.RUin which regions on the night of January 13-14, when the Old New Year is celebrated, it will be especially frosty.
“There are regions where the temperature on New Year’s Eve according to the old style will be significantly below the norm, by 15-16 degrees,” the forecaster said.
According to Vilfand, in regions “cold by definition” temperatures will approach -45, -50 degrees “and even lower.” These are the north of Western Siberia, the north of Central Siberia (the Turukhansk region of Taimyr and Evenkia) and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
But there are regions where comfortable weather is expected on the festive night. In Yekaterinburg, as the meteorologist noted, “the temperature background is about two degrees above the norm.” There “and neighboring regions – Tatarstan, in the Volga Federal District – will be about -12, -15 degrees.”
And during the day the temperature will rise to -8, -9 degrees.
“Absolutely comfortable Old New Year,” Vilfand said.
Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center said that in Moscow on the Old New Year (at night) -2, -5 degrees are expected. And it will be around 0 during the weekend.
