The intention of Mr. Bout to take part in the elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Yaroslavl region was reported by Vedomosti. Viktor Bout himself, in response to the question of whether he plans to be elected, answered in the negative.

According to the entrepreneur, he intends to visit several regions as an active member of the Liberal Democratic Party. Bout joined the party shortly after returning from the US, where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012. In 2022, Viktor Bout was released in a trade for basketball player Brittney Griner.
Meanwhile, Viktor Bout has the opportunity to take part in the elections to the Yaroslavl Regional Duma without becoming a deputy. On April 25, the Duma canceled a clause of the regional law on elections, according to which the party lost the mandate received from the lists if the candidate refused to accept the powers of a deputy. The new amendments make it possible to use the so-called locomotives in the elections – media personalities who do not become deputies in the future.
