Vice Speaker of the State Duma sent a draft to the government on the right of students to transfer to the budget by decree

State Duma Vice Speaker Vladislav Davankov from the New People party sent a bill to the government for conclusion on the right of female students who gave birth to a child during their studies to transfer from a paid to a state-funded place. TASS has a copy of the document.

Amendments are proposed to be made to Art. 34 of the Law “On Education”. A budget place for a student on maternity leave will be allocated additionally. At the same time, the financial and economic justification for the document indicates that it is impossible to calculate the amount of additional funding for additional budget places, since information on the number of female students who gave birth during the period of study and did not receive the opportunity to switch to free education is not published.

The author of the bill believes that pregnancy should not be the reason for leaving the university. “But that is exactly what is happening now. After the birth of a child, only a few return to study on a paid basis, because the family has other more important expenses, ”said the TASS deputy. At the same time, according to the bill, it will be possible to return to the university at any time after the birth of a child.

Now students on maternity leave can count on additional payments from the university. If a student is on academic leave during pregnancy, she needs to take maternity leave – and then she will receive a payment in the amount of a scholarship. If a student studies under a contract, she can still count on maternity benefits. In the absence of a scholarship, maternity payments are calculated based on the basic amount of the scholarship.
