Deputies of the City Duma of Krasnodar elected Yevgeny Naumov as the new mayor of the city by a majority vote, Alexander Safronov, head of the Communist Party faction, told Kommersant. Prior to his election as head of the regional center, Mr. Naumov was the vice-governor of the Krasnodar Territory for construction issues. His candidacy was supported by the head of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev.
The vote was not without scandal – the Communist Party faction (4 communist deputies were present at the session) refused to vote in protest against the election procedure. Krasnodar communists are in favor of returning direct elections of the mayor, Alexander Safronov, head of the faction, told Kommersant.
A list of five candidates selected by the commission during the competition was submitted to the City Duma for a vote. Before voting, candidates Pavel Popov and Nikolai Pavelko appealed to the deputies of the City Duma with an appeal to support Yevgeny Naumov. As a result, 40 deputies voted for Mr. Naumov, and one deputy nevertheless supported the unemployed Nikolai Pavelko.
Evgeny Naumov is 42 years old, he graduated from the automotive and road department of the Kuban Technological University, underwent retraining in the specialty “Municipal Finance”, and then received a second higher education in the specialty “Jurisprudence”. Until 2015, he held various positions in the administration of Krasnodar, including vice-mayor of the regional center. Then he worked as the first deputy general director of the regional center for standardization, the first deputy minister of labor and social development of the region. Since 2020, he again worked in the mayor’s office of Krasnodar, including as acting mayor. In October 2021, Evgeny Naumov was appointed to the post of deputy head of the region.
