For their first doubles match in more than four years (they last teamed up at Roland-Garros 2018), the Williams sisters failed to win on Friday when they entered the competition. The Arthur-Ashe, which was still full, and the night session were however reserved for them, Serena’s imminent retirement obliges, but that was not enough against the Czech doublet Linda Noskova -Lucie Hradecka (7-5 [5]6-4).
The Williams carried two first set points but missed their chance to wrap up this duel. The tie-break lost, they were quickly broken in the second set. They then resisted but the Czechs ended up winning. The youngest will again headline the night session, her third in a row, for her Friday singles against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of this US Open 2022.
