Vedomosti: CEC will not publish data on the number of voters in the annexed regions

The Central Election Commission does not plan to publish information on the number of voters in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as of January 1, 2023, the newspaper reported Vedomosti with a link to the source. According to her interlocutor, this is due to the fact that martial law operates in these regions, under which elections are not held.

Deputy Chairman of the CEC Nikolai Bulaev also told Vedomosti that the refusal to publish data on voters in the annexed regions was fixed by a decision of the CEC on December 21 last year.

The interlocutor of the publication also noted that only citizens of Russia will be able to vote in the elections in the annexed regions in 2023. According to what documents this will be determined, according to him, depends on the legislators. Experts interviewed by Vedomosti noted that although many residents of the regions have Russian passports, they do not contain registration information. According to experts, this is due to the queues at the migration services.

According to the law, the CEC publishes data on the number of voters in the Russian regions twice a year: on January 1 and July 1.

The DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions were annexed to Russia on September 30, 2022. It is expected that the elections of the heads of regions and local parliaments will be held on a single voting day on September 10, 2023. According to Kommersant’s information, five parliamentary parties have begun preparing candidates for CECs in new regions.
