Stolen and found Van Gogh painting needs restoration
According to NL Times, an early painting by the 19th-century Dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh, “The Priest’s Garden at Nuenen in Spring,” painted in 1884 and stolen in March 2020 from the singer Laren’s museum, was returned damaged.
As restorer Marjan de Visser told the agency, the upper left corner of the painting was damaged, and the canvas was also crossed by several deep scratches and a through cut. The paint has rubbed off in several places.
“But all the damage can be repaired. This will return the painting to the same condition it was in before the theft,” the expert said.
It is planned that the restoration of the masterpiece will be carried out by restorers of the Boijmans-van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam.
Let us remind you that the canvas was returned by an unknown person in 2023, wrapped in a pillowcase and a bag.
