Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel were selected on Tuesday by the Belgian federation to lead the national selection during the online race of the Worlds in Wollongong (Australia), on September 25, and to dethrone the double title holder Julian Alaphilippe. Triple stage winner on the Tour de France 2022 and recent winner of the Bretagne Classic, Van Aert (27) will be one of the favorites of the event, alongside the young nugget Evenepoel (22), current leader of the general classification of the Tour of Spain, and also winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège last April and of the Clasica San Sebastian in July.
Van Aert and Evenepoel will be surrounded by solid rider Yves Lampaert, stage winner in the prologue of the Grande Boucle, Milan San Remo 2021 winner Jasper Stuyven, Pieter Serry, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Quinten Hermans and Stan Dewulf. The Belgian time trial champion Evenepoel will also be aligned in the time trial with Yves Lampaert, victorious in the discipline at national level in 2021. Van Aert will not take part.
