Valve gaming company introduced a new software update for Proton 8.0, designed to run Windows games on a Linux operating system. You can now play games like Dead Space (2023), Forspoken, and more on Linux.
Proton has received bug fixes and improved support for projects such as Mortal Combat X, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Forza Horizon 5. Proton 8 is based on the Vulkan API for high performance and low resource consumption. Proton will require a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU to run. Proton is included in the Steam Play feature and is also used in the Steam Deck handheld console running Linux-based SteamOS. Previously running games on Steam Deck exceeded 8 thousand, and the console itself can sell out with a circulation of over 3 million by the end of 2023.
