Valuable documents from the Kursk Museum of Local Lore will get a new life thanks to a scanner manufactured in the capital

The Russian planetary scanning complex, which was developed by the Moscow corporation ELAR, was brought to the Kursk Regional Museum of Local Lore. With its help, more than 240 thousand ancient documents will be digitized.
The corporation has developed a line of planetary scanners that are needed for contactless digitalization of documentation. Products in this series are made on the basis of quick-detachable integrated units. They are equipped with powerful Russian industrial cameras.
“Using the device developed by Moscow engineers, more than 243 thousand museum exhibits will be scanned. Documents, photographs, books, newspapers, postcards and other printed materials will be digitized,” said Moscow Government Minister, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Vladislav Ovchinsky.
He added that the equipment is used in libraries, archives, defense industry enterprises, and design bureaus.
According to the head of the corporation’s marketing department, Artem Vartanyan, the ElarScan line of scanners allows you to carefully create digital copies of the most dilapidated documents. In 2023, scanners were installed to digitize funds, for example, at the Sergiev Posad State Historical and Art Museum-Reserve, the National Museum of the Udmurt Republic named after Gerd, the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg and others.
Digital copies from Kursk will be placed in the State Catalog of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation.
