Utilities of the city are ready for the spring flood

The preparatory work of the city utilities for the passage of the spring flood has begun. In particular, monitoring of snow reserves has been organized, preparation of reservoirs and hydroelectric facilities, other facilities of engineering and resource organizations, including JSC Mosvodokanal, is underway.

“The beginning of the flood in the capital region is usually observed in late March – early April. Currently, the flood situation on the territory of Moscow is normal, there is no increase in the water level, ”said Pyotr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for housing and communal services and landscaping.

The passage of high water along the movement of the Moskva River will be carried out on the basis of the approved regulations on the interaction of Mosvodokanal JSC, Moscow Canal Federal State Budgetary Institution and Gormost State Budgetary Institution.

The document fixes the areas of responsibility of city services, defines a clear algorithm of actions during the passage of floods and floods, provides for round-the-clock exchange of operational information on the development of the hydrological situation, the volume and power of the water flow. This will allow organizations to synchronize their work and go through this period without emergency situations.

Preparation for the spring flood begins long before it begins. In winter, every 10 days, and in the spring, on the eve of floods, every 5 days, hydrologists from Mosvodokanal JSC go on a snow survey to measure snow depth parameters. The results are analyzed and a forecast of melt water inflows into reservoirs is made. Based on the data obtained, their water level is lowered. This is done in order to provide a free capacity for receiving melt water and leave an additional reserve in case of spring rains.

“The needs of the capital region are provided by 15 reservoirs of the Moskvoretsko-Vazuzskaya and Volga water systems, the total area of ​​the catchment area is 50 thousand square kilometers,” said Pyotr Biryukov. — Natural water is sampled at different depths, which makes it possible to identify differences in its composition and obtain objective information about the state of water bodies. We also check water with the help of automatic analyzers installed at the stations and in the city distribution network.”

Devices continuously track changes in 18 main indicators of the composition of water, characterizing its quality, such as turbidity, color, electrical conductivity. These data are entered into a single information system, which allows you to quickly make decisions on adjusting technological processes at water treatment plants, for example, changing doses of chemical treatment or introducing additional treatment.

The basis of the capital’s water supply is the resources of rivers and reservoirs on the territory of three regions: Moscow, Smolensk and Tver. To date, they have enough free reservoirs to receive all the melt runoff and prevent flooding of the territories.
