WBC world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury refused to pay Ukraine $ 1 million to fight with the holder of titles according to the versions of the World Boxing Association (WBA; Super), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) Ukrainian Alexander Usyk. This was announced by Usyk’s manager Oleksandr Krasyuk.
As Alexander Krasyuk told the portal Boxing Social, Fury offered Usyk 30% of all payouts for the fight during negotiations. According to him, Usyk responded by setting a condition that Fury should pay $1 million to Ukraine. “This is not a donation, this is not charity, this is my condition,” Usyk quotes Krasyuk as saying.
“Tyson did not want to pay Ukraine. And I will never give a reason. Because it will forever destroy his image,” added Alexander Krasyuk.
Boxing Social did not contact Tyson Fury and his representatives for comment.
About the disruption of the fight Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk became known in March. According to Marca, the parties could not agree on the distribution of income during the negotiations. As the portal wrote, Usyk advocated an equal distribution of income, Fury demanded most of the money received from the fight.
Oleksandr Usyk, 36, is the reigning WBA, WBO and IBF world champion in professional boxing. Tyson Fury, 34, is a World Boxing Council (WBC) belt holder.
