Artyom Uss, who escaped from Italy, was arrested at home with a written undertaking not to leave
Artem Uss, the son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, who fled from Italy to Russia, has had his preventive measure changed to a written undertaking not to leave, Uss’ lawyer Alexei Tikhomirov said on Tuesday.
According to the lawyer, Artem Uss, after escaping from Italy, voluntarily appeared “to the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.”
This happened, according to Tikhomirov, on Tuesday. And “the investigator changed his measure of restraint”, taking from the governor’s son a written undertaking not to leave.
Artem Uss was detained on October 17, 2022 at the Malpensa airport in Milan at the request of the United States. It was reported that he was going to fly to Turkey. The US Attorney’s Office charged the businessman with violating the sanctions imposed by the United States against the Russian Federation and Venezuela, illegal transactions and money laundering.
On October 27, Uss was arrested in absentia in Russia on charges of money laundering.
After that, Russia began to seek his extradition.
Washington at the same time insisted on his extradition to the United States.
Under arrest, Uss was in Busto Arsizio.
On March 21, a court in Milan approved his extradition to the United States, but he escaped from custody.
He broke his electronic bracelet and left the apartment, and when the carabinieri arrived there, the Russian had already fled.
On Tuesday, April 4, Artem Uss announced that he was in Russia.
The defendant’s father, Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, stated that the criminal case against his son was politically motivated.
