US Special Forces soldier Daniel Swift died in Donbas, Time magazine reports.

The date of his death is not known, but it is reported that he died from gunshot wounds during the fighting. Swift was an “operator first class” (roughly equivalent to the rank of lieutenant) in the United States Navy Special Forces.

It is also reported that the American is not retired, unlike most foreigners arriving in Ukraine. The material says that Swift, apparently, arbitrarily left the service, and has been in the status of a deserter since the spring of 2019, and where he was before the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine is unknown.

The deceased had combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, he was awarded medals for the fight against terrorism.

The State Department confirmed to Time the death of a US citizen in eastern Ukraine, but did not release his name “out of respect for privacy at this difficult time.”

Officially, the US government urges its citizens not to take part in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
