US returns $1 million coin to Israel

The American authorities handed over to the Israeli side a coin made almost 2000 years ago, reports The Jerusalem Post. The coin was found by black diggers in the early 2000s in the area of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and was taken out of Israel using forged documents.
The coin, called the “Quarter Shekel”, was minted in 69 AD during the Jewish uprising against the Roman Empire. The artifact is especially valuable because the museums of the country have not yet had a single such shekel. The cost is estimated at one million US dollars (approximately 60 million rubles).
The coin was taken through Jordan to the UK, and in 2017, using forged documents, it was sent to the United States. In the same year, “A quarter of a shekel” was put up for auction in Denver (Colorado), and investigators immediately came to the owner.
In the US, however, no arrests have been made in connection with the attempted sale of the historical property.
The return ceremony took place on September 12 in New York. It is reported that the coin will be transferred to one of the museums in Israel.
