The super-heavy launch vehicle SLS was launched from the spaceport at Cape Canaveral in Florida. It is supposed to bring the newest Orion spacecraft into the orbit of the Moon.
The rocket launch took place at 09:47 Moscow time. At the same time, a hydrogen leak was detected during the refueling of the launch vehicle the day before. It took the experts some time to fix the problem. In addition, the launch was previously postponed several times due to weather conditions.
The mission, dubbed Artemis 1, is expected to last 42 days. Orion should approach the Moon at a distance of about 100 kilometers and, as a result of the influence of the gravitational force of the Earth’s satellite, enter its deep retrograde orbit. He will be there for about six days.
The Orion mission will last four to six weeks, after which the capsule must splash down off the coast of California.
