Six-time Olympic champion, honorary citizen of the Chelyabinsk region Lidiya Skoblikova today, March 8, celebrates her 85th birthday. Only four women in the history of Olympic sports managed to win such a set of awards. In the Southern Urals, perhaps, there is not a single person who does not know the name Skoblikova.

It is her name that bears the Chelyabinsk ice palace “Ural Lightning”, opened on the 40th anniversary of Skoblikova’s legendary performance at the Olympics in Innsbruck, when she took the highest awards in speed skating. By the way, after this achievement, the head of state Nikita Khrushchev accepted her as a member of the CPSU by calling her by phone.

Previously, “MK-Chelyabinsk” wrote that the Chelyabinsk region team became third in speed skating at the Spartakiad.
