Universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg have increased the cost of education

In the 2023/24 academic year, Russian leading universities increased tuition fees by an average of 12%. According to Vedomosti, this conclusion was made on the basis of an analysis of data from universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg, included in the top 10 RAEX rankings (Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, St. Petersburg State University, MEPhI, HSE, MSTU, MGIMO, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and RANEPA).
The HSE, RANEPA, St. Petersburg State University and MEPhI distinguished themselves by the most significant growth in tuition fees. For example, at MEPhI, the cost of education for some programs has increased by 18-22%. The cost of education in the areas of “information systems and technologies” and “software engineering” increased from 286,000 to 340,000 rubles. The cost of “applied mathematics” has increased from 256,000 to 310,000 rubles, and “physics” – from 287,000 to 350,600 rubles per year of study.
The cost of education at RANEPA has risen by 12% for certain areas. The programs “economics and business management” and “world economy and foreign economic activity” went up by 12%, increasing from 410,000 to 460,000 rubles. “Jurisprudence: interdisciplinary research”, “international relations: politics, business, economics” and “digital advertising and public relations” went up by 10%, reaching 450,000, 596,000 and 430,000 rubles, respectively. The programs “business and political journalism” and “marketing” have risen in price by 9%, now the cost is 395,000 and 380,000 rubles, respectively.
